Being healthy is not defined
by losing weight
I have been coaching people on healthy eating options for over 20 years, and everyone that I work with has different individual concerns. I can't tell you how many times I have heard people complain about how their health doesn't seem to match what they see on the scale. Being healthy is not defined by losing weight: Those who lose weight sometimes don't see a reduction in the size of their clothes, and those who get better reports from their doctor's visits don't necessarily always see the reduction of weight that they think they should.
This leads to a lot of frustration and feelings of failure.
When we only address weight loss as the main indicator of our success or failure at a healthy lifestyle, we are missing the boat!
One of the reasons why achieving a healthy lifestyle seems so difficult is that because our needs change often. From the change of seasons, to change of location, to change of who we spend time with, our lives are constantly shifting and changing. Just when we think we might get to coast, something seems to thrown in a monkey wrench and throws everything off. One thing that we can always do is weigh ourselves, and it becomes a 'go to' for an indication about how we are doing. Anyone who has weighed themselves often knows that even your body shape isn't exactly connected to our weight.
Worrying about weight loss is a band-aid solution for a broken arm
